How to recognize a genuine gold ring?

Genuine gold is always stamped. On the inner surface of the ring, there is a stamp that indicates the gold content. For example,375, 585, or 750 indicate the gold content in thousandths. For instance, 585 means 585/1000, which corresponds to 14k gold, etc. Similarly, 375 corresponds to 9K gold, and 750 corresponds to 18K gold.

Does a gold ring retain its monetary value?

Certainly, gold retains its monetary value, but jewelry also has a labor component. You can get more for an 18K gold ring used than for a similarly weighted 9K ring.
